Jocelyn: Update

Dance has come to a end, and while one of our dancers is ready to be done, Jocelyn is not.  She has loved it.  Her little friend Tayci was always there to dance with and be her dance partner on occasion as well.  She loved the Tu-tus, the hair, the makeup, and the music.

She loves to swing her hips and rock out and do heel stretches, and she's a JOYE to watch.  She reminds me of me, when I was her age and dancing.  Silly, but delightful.

Other than that, Jocelyn's excited for Kindergarten, even though she has all summer to wait.  Which is good, because we're going to need to work on a few things, like not crying when I can't come help her.  She needs to work on her home address and her phone number.

When I left for Arizona, she had a hard time, crying constantly over the smallest things.  She cried while I was gone too.  She's tender-hearted, that much is true, but she also has a temper.

I keep reminding her of things we're going to have to do, like her hair, on a daily basis.  She's not to keen on that idea.

But she is excited about recess possibilities.

So that something.

She finished speech today.  She's come a long way, so quickly, and with hardly any trouble.  Her speech therapist, Mrs. Lisa, was very kind to her and Jocelyn loved learning from her.  The last couple of weeks Mrs. Lisa assigned her books to "read" instead of working on just sounds.  These included Brown Bear, Brown Bear and The Hungry Caterpillar. I'd read them to her once, maybe twice, and she basically had it memorized.

Then she'd 'read' the book every night, and on occasion to others, until she'd pass it off to her teacher.  She loved this, and I hope to keep at it over the summer.  If she slips back on her speech, we'll do more in the fall with school, but I think she's come so far, so fast, that it was a matter of just correcting her, and showing her how to properly say her sounds.  I also think she's chronically congested with allergies (Allergy Shiners, remember? or did I not blog that?  I'll have to look into it.) and that doesn't help her speech either.

If only she'd get better at blowing her nose.

Lastly, Her hair is getting so long!  The weight of it has pulled the curl out, but not really.

See:

Cute, huh!
Love it!

The Opposite of Christmas Morning

We are having the opposite of Christmas morning at our house.  No toys.  We have one of these for storing toys: And several of these for the same reason: And last night the kids thought dumping them out for the sake of dumping toys would be fun.  This is a major rule breaker in our home.  I have had problems with this in the past, (even Mykalee knows this) and i have told them if it happens again, all the toys will disappear. And last night, after I found out what they had done, the toys have been grounded.  FOR A WEEK.  I hope it's as devastating as possible, so that they will learn I am serious when it comes to dumping toys out. {Also, Brooklyn is the only one who is exempt from this, as she was in bed.  Innocent.} On a side note, we did get the kids this on Friday.  It was time.  They seem to love it.

Catelyn--The Birthday Girl!

She knew.  I told her that she was getting a dress for her 8th birthday.  We tried some on, and fell in LOVE with the one we ended up surprising her with!  Doesn't she look too grown up?   I teared up as I watched 12 more years flash before my eyes as I saw her in this mini-wedding dress.  But it was the one for her.  We knew it. With Grandpa Dean's passing, we received special permission {which Kyle didn't like to have to ask for, because in the church handbook, it specifically says "Members should not ask for special permission to baptize their children. . .blah, blah blah....*Oh!! not that I am making fun of the handbook.  I just don't what it says exactly* I argued back that this was a rare exception, and we should at least ask. {Also, not as rare as I thought-- as I found out Friday night -March 18- that the family who had a viewing going at the same time as ours, at Coltrin's, had a baptism and a funeral in the same day as well! ...
