January 6th, TEETH PULLED

BRACES ON DAY!
So our munchkin got braces! This is the real deal, too, this time. We're looking at 14-18 months. Brushing meticulously, 3 times a day. Funky flossing. Monthly visits to see Dr. Baker. The Works.

1--The finished product. She'll get braces on her lower teeth in few months, but here she is! In Braces!
2--She doesn't have enough space in her mouth for her incisors to come--see photo 4--so we pulled two molars out. After three consultations, all of which suggested pulling them out, we knew it was the path to take. She was super worried about it, but trusted that with a blessing it would be all good. And it was! She has fun side story about those molars, too!
Mrs. Haynes, her 6th grade teacher, wanted the teeth! She's going to do a science experiment with them. They'll going to collect a few more teeth-most likely baby teeth being lost by her students or their siblings. Then they'll put the teeth in jars with different liquids and watch the teeth rot. I'm sure the boys in the class think this is terribly awesome. I know the girls are a little grossed out, but secretly loving it. By far, Catelyn's adult teeth will probably be the only adult teeth in this experience. It'll be interesting to see how adult teeth compare to the baby ones. All in the name of science! Now, if we could just figure out how to charge the teacher for the dentist's bill. :) She did pay Cate for the teeth, which was cute.
3--This is the iconic must-have BEFORE photo. When she gets her braces off, has her contacts in, and is wearing makeup, in 14+ months, we'll take another photo. So fun.
4--See those incisors? Yeah, they're so high up in her gum line, you can't even see them when she's smiling. Don't mind the wild, bright blue polish, either.
5--So we had those teeth pulled, and it was insane for me to watch, I gotta say. She did so great on the laughing gas, and was way loopy. She even did great with the numbing. When he had the first one out, she was all, "Wait, you took one out already?" Yup. So funny.
The dentist slid a shovel like tool under the gums, to loosen the skin around the tooth, and then with a pair of pliers, okay they were't the kind we all have in our toolbox, but still--he gripped the tooth and began to twist it left, then right. left, right. again and again, working it out until, BAM! he pulled down and out it came. Blood gushed like crazy! It was awesome wicked!
6--I think we're going to love Dr. Baker. Brooklyn took this photo of him--as he was so funny and cool chatting with her and told her to take a photo of him.
