I like to ride my Bicycle!

New Bikes: July 24th.  Happy Pioneer Day!

They seriously ride, every day. I'm not kidding.

Brooklyn usually rides her little tricycle, but it's falling apart.  When we took her to the store to LOOK at bikes, she got on a little bike with training wheels and took off and Kyle and I looked at each other like, "What the heck! She can ride?"  So we got her a new bike, and now she won't ride it.  She's incredibly nervous.  I've helped her a bunch of times, but she's still scared. There isn't anything that could warrant this kind of caution from her, other than we're outside and not in a store.  It's not like she's fallen off yet.  Hopefully, it won't last long.

Jocelyn is the only one who didn't get a new bike this year.  Hers was still in pretty good shape- she just needed a new seat and new grips.  Done and done.  She loves those star grips too.  And it made her bike new again, so she's delighted.  She'd love to learn to ride without her training wheels, but she lacks confidence completely. I hope we can work up the courage soon!  She's excited to ride her bike to school too.

Landon had outgrown his bike, in a big way.  He may not be much heavier, but he's gotten taller.  His knees were nearly hitting the handle bars. His biggest dream for his next bike was that "I can pedal backwards".  We figured out pretty quick he wanted to be able to back pedal without breaking, meaning he wanted a BMX bike or one with gears.  And the BMX won out.  It's a little big for him, but the size smaller is just to small by a hair.  It took him less than a day to adjust to this bike, and we're pretty confident he'll grown into it by fall.

And last, but not least, Catelyn's bike was seriously falling apart.  More than 15 years old, the sweet hand-me down had seen it's day.  But it was working, most of the time. However it had an unfortunate death when Cate left it in the drive way while a neighbor was over visiting.  When our friend left, he backed right over it.  Thus, we loaded it up and took it to the dump.  Poor Catelyn, she was devastated.  We let her wallow in her despair for a few days, but really the timing wasn't so bad.  We were planning on new bikes for the kids before school anyway.

With her bike's demise, we had a reason to go get new bikes.
But boy, oh boy, did they all get an earful on taking care of their bikes once again.  This time, both Catelyn and Landon's bikes have kickstands, which before, neither of their old bikes had that.  They're pretty excited about those, which is good, and if they park on concrete or drop their bikes on their sides, they're grounded.  They are to park on grass and use those kickstands.  Is it really all that hard?

Yes. Yes it is.

The Opposite of Christmas Morning

We are having the opposite of Christmas morning at our house.  No toys.  We have one of these for storing toys: And several of these for the same reason: And last night the kids thought dumping them out for the sake of dumping toys would be fun.  This is a major rule breaker in our home.  I have had problems with this in the past, (even Mykalee knows this) and i have told them if it happens again, all the toys will disappear. And last night, after I found out what they had done, the toys have been grounded.  FOR A WEEK.  I hope it's as devastating as possible, so that they will learn I am serious when it comes to dumping toys out. {Also, Brooklyn is the only one who is exempt from this, as she was in bed.  Innocent.} On a side note, we did get the kids this on Friday.  It was time.  They seem to love it.

Catelyn--The Birthday Girl!

She knew.  I told her that she was getting a dress for her 8th birthday.  We tried some on, and fell in LOVE with the one we ended up surprising her with!  Doesn't she look too grown up?   I teared up as I watched 12 more years flash before my eyes as I saw her in this mini-wedding dress.  But it was the one for her.  We knew it. With Grandpa Dean's passing, we received special permission {which Kyle didn't like to have to ask for, because in the church handbook, it specifically says "Members should not ask for special permission to baptize their children. . .blah, blah blah....*Oh!! not that I am making fun of the handbook.  I just don't what it says exactly* I argued back that this was a rare exception, and we should at least ask. {Also, not as rare as I thought-- as I found out Friday night -March 18- that the family who had a viewing going at the same time as ours, at Coltrin's, had a baptism and a funeral in the same day as well! ...
