Brooklyn Update

That one took a while, but it's finally through and I think she's doing better. She has been a bit grouchy and needy lately, and I am really not sure what is up with her.

She continues to eat ANYTHING she finds on the floor, so we are pretty vigilant about watching that.

She is getting pretty quick at her little Marine Crawl. She pulls and pulls herself around and gets from the living room to my room with ease these days. Sometimes she stays on her knees for about three or four "crawl motions" but then bellys out, and returns to the pull.

She had her first Cheerios yesterday and is tackling a pancake this morning. This because she seems to have enough drool to soak anything down to crumbs. Also her Pincher Grasp seems to be in place . . . a fun milestone to watch for! Seems to be loving feeding herself REAL food! Better than the bits of paper, dried food, wrappers, and other miscellaneous stuff she finds on the floor. {Yep, you should know I am not a perfect house keeper.} She is only a week away from being 9 months old.

She is almost pulling herself to a standing position too. The next thing I watch out for will be the cruising along furniture. Then comes walking . . . least that has been the case with the other 3 kids, and she seems to be following suit. It's going too fast!



The Pincher Grasp

All babies are different and there is no set-in-stone age for when to introduce finger foods. You should introduce finger foods when you feel that your baby is ready; this may be at 7 months old or when baby is 10 months old. The average age for introducing baby finger food is between 7 and 8 months of age.

Your baby should be able to "chew" using his or her gums to mash foods. Your baby should also have a pretty good pincher grasp. The pincher grasp is the the ability to grab and hold objects between the thumb and the fore finger. If your baby has the fine motor skill to maneuver and grab and hold onto foods with the pincher grasp, then your baby is probably ready for finger foods.



As a side note: the other kids are busy playing with their new toys from Christmas. Seems that these new toys are well liked.

what a sweetie! Her blue eyes really jump out at ya! Babies amaze me at how quickly they develop and learn new things.

The Opposite of Christmas Morning

We are having the opposite of Christmas morning at our house.  No toys.  We have one of these for storing toys: And several of these for the same reason: And last night the kids thought dumping them out for the sake of dumping toys would be fun.  This is a major rule breaker in our home.  I have had problems with this in the past, (even Mykalee knows this) and i have told them if it happens again, all the toys will disappear. And last night, after I found out what they had done, the toys have been grounded.  FOR A WEEK.  I hope it's as devastating as possible, so that they will learn I am serious when it comes to dumping toys out. {Also, Brooklyn is the only one who is exempt from this, as she was in bed.  Innocent.} On a side note, we did get the kids this on Friday.  It was time.  They seem to love it.

Happy Birthday Catelyn!!!

Breaking News: Brooklyn

Nothing like getting a sharp poke in the ear. Especially when you're two and an half and ASK for it. When Brooklyn was a baby I went to have her ears done, but decided to hold off, since her one ear lobe was so tiny, and her ears were very different in size. So I waited. For her to grow into her ears. And to grow some hair. Still waiting on the hair part, so earrings seemed like a great idea. She asked for them, and since we both wanted them, we went and got them. She picked out a pair, and viola, it was done. She said, "Owwwww!" once, and then laughed when the lady gave her a sucker and began modeling for me and Kyle.  All to show off her new earrings! Yup, seriously, she loves them.  It's pretty stinking cute.  She is constantly telling me, each time we clean and rotate them, "Mom, never take them out, 'kay?" Okay. Deal.
