Cate was sick for her concert after all! What a bummer! The poor girl tried so hard, and we were proud of her efforts! Just before their concert was to begin she started to look pale and I could tell her fever had returned. Sure enough, she was cooking. Miraculously, Becky G., an old friend of mine, and my family's had children's Tylenol on her! It didn't take effect until after their portion of singing, but by the end of the night, she was feeling much better. She looked like she might cry at any given moment while on stage.
I should back up here. Three days ago, Cate came down with a fever. This fever has circulated though Jocelyn and Landon, but not quite so fiercely or lengthy. Landon received a blessing when it hit him, because I get nervous when he gets sick. He is just so small framed that I hate it when he isn't well.
So Cate asked her dad for a blessing too. Part stubborn, part faith, she refused help from medicine and cool cloths. Anyway, her fever started out low-grade, ranging around 99 or 100. It would break with medication, and she missed school Thursday and by Friday it had let up, but I kept her home to rest so that hopefully she would be fine for her concert. She had a fever from about 6 am until 10 and then nothing...until 5pm, just an hour before the concert was to begin. Today, it lingers on, pushing over 100 to102.9 and such. We are fighting it off with cool cloths and medicine, but the poor girl is just plain miserable. After the concert, it didn't let up. She got hotter and around 2 am she crawled into bed with me. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO SLEEP WITH A 5 YEAR OLD FURNACE, WHILE PREGNANT??? Needless to say, I was up for an hour and a half, simply because she was there. She wasn't being annoying or whiny, she just took up space I needed and made it very warm. Kyle of course, slept through nearly all of it.
She won't be going to church tomorrow and thankfully there is not PM K on Monday, so she has another 2 days to get feeling better.
Back to the concert! Landon was a complete riot! He seemed so proud of himself! I had to leave him in the room and when they came on stage his tie was missing. Later he told us it was bothering him, so he took it off. Thanks to Mac she found it in the choir room a little later. He was all smiles the whole night, eager to do his best! {This is usually how Cate behaves, but due to the fever, not so much.} He was always a beat behind when they clapped or stomped or did any kind of movement, which was so cute to us. He is only three, and the youngest in the class. But he did great!
Cate stayed down in the seats with us, Mac, and Gma and Gpa Pack, until her class came out and then she joined them--somewhat reluctantly, and with much prodding--as we convinced her to try her best and that her teacher, Mrs. Davenport was there to watch her. So she went. She really did look sad, but she perked up when they sang Over the River and did some actions to go with it.
We are so impressed with Mrs. Davenport. We think it especially awesome and nice of her to take her Friday night and spend it watching a concert that only parents and grandparents could really love and enjoy. But she told Cate that she would try to be there, and told us that if her students invite her to something, she tries hard to make it. I had emailed her that Cate was sick, and that she wanted to invite her teacher to her choir concert. Here is the email response she sent me:

Gina,
I am so sorry that Cate is not feeling well. I usually go to my students events if they invite me. I have a meeting at 4PM tomorrow, but if I can I will try to go watch her. Can you buy tickets at the door?
Carla
This was part of my reply to this email:
I don’t know how you can manage to find time to do something like this…. You are truly amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Carla's reply to that was:
It means a lot to the kids and that is important!
What a fantastic teacher, huh!!!!
Anyway, this too shall pass, right? It's just a fever. No other symptoms yet, knock on wood!
Here are a few photos from the concert!
