Corn Harvest 2012

We've had to have conversations, again, in our house about SWEET corn and FIELD corn, and if you don't know the difference, let me just tell you.  You'd be hard pressed and starving to enjoy FIELD corn.

I think the older two have it figured out.
That, and the difference between straw and hey.

It's officially FALL, and I busted out the Halloween decor, but what's got me in the mood really is our ANNUAL PACK CORN MARATHON.  Also known as Corn Harvest. The corn is so TALL this year. The tallest we've had in YEARS.  My mom was right when she said Dean would be proud of it!  You don't want to know why.    Okay, I'll tell.

It was the fertilizer.  It wasn't from animals or plants.  'Nuff said. (Just so anyone who might be grossed out by this, you should know, it's a big deal, and it's done all around the world.  Cool thing however- it's clearly treated and turned into a liquid form, just like other fertilizer he could have bought, and was FREE. It's highly coveted stuff; you have to get on a waiting list for it, and this year my dad's number came up!  Woo hoo!)

But I also think it's because LIGHTNING actually struck a tree out on the pasture just north of the corn field.  I think it shot so much energy into the ground right there that the corn had no other choice.  It had to grow up fast!  Hee Hee! The only way out, was up!  It's nearly 12 feet tall in the middle of the field.  This photo was taken just a block from mom's house. (Not the middle of the field, per se.)

Things were moving along GREAT until mom jinxed it.  She posted about it on facebook, that they were nearly done, and within 30 minutes, the Cat broke down.  Hopefully they'll be up and running and finished however, tomorrow.

I plan to take photos of the fried tree.  It's make this post that much more insightful.  All the grass around the tree is fried too, but the corn, well, as you can see.....

The Opposite of Christmas Morning

We are having the opposite of Christmas morning at our house.  No toys.  We have one of these for storing toys: And several of these for the same reason: And last night the kids thought dumping them out for the sake of dumping toys would be fun.  This is a major rule breaker in our home.  I have had problems with this in the past, (even Mykalee knows this) and i have told them if it happens again, all the toys will disappear. And last night, after I found out what they had done, the toys have been grounded.  FOR A WEEK.  I hope it's as devastating as possible, so that they will learn I am serious when it comes to dumping toys out. {Also, Brooklyn is the only one who is exempt from this, as she was in bed.  Innocent.} On a side note, we did get the kids this on Friday.  It was time.  They seem to love it.

Breaking News: Brooklyn

Nothing like getting a sharp poke in the ear. Especially when you're two and an half and ASK for it. When Brooklyn was a baby I went to have her ears done, but decided to hold off, since her one ear lobe was so tiny, and her ears were very different in size. So I waited. For her to grow into her ears. And to grow some hair. Still waiting on the hair part, so earrings seemed like a great idea. She asked for them, and since we both wanted them, we went and got them. She picked out a pair, and viola, it was done. She said, "Owwwww!" once, and then laughed when the lady gave her a sucker and began modeling for me and Kyle.  All to show off her new earrings! Yup, seriously, she loves them.  It's pretty stinking cute.  She is constantly telling me, each time we clean and rotate them, "Mom, never take them out, 'kay?" Okay. Deal. And I did mention that we are waiting on some hair, but some is sprouting. So we're hopeful! See, she...
