We're not Broken, Just Bent

So.  Friday night we'd gone out to a movie with friends and left the kids in the care of a great babysitter.   Turns out Jo took a fall from the monkey bars. SweetbabysitterJ didn't do anything wrong and in fact, did exactly what I would have done. Loved her, iced it, and put her to bed on time.  I found out at 2 a.m. when Jo comes up stairs that her wrist hurt, but I didn't know what the cause was behind it why.  Didn't care, to be honest, because I was half asleep and so was she. Come morning, I hear the tale of wo, and we ice it again and go about our day with Ibuprofen as our friend. She's acting fine, just complaining off and on that it hurts. The thought that it could be broken crosses mind immediately, but I decide to give it time before rushing into an ER joint and paying lots for it.  Plus, I had a bridal shower and a few other things to do.  And she was FINE.... Come Sunday, she complained even less.  I'm starting to think we...

Did you catch that Cate was in the Doctor's Office too?

Bless that girl's heart. She has a ear infection. Likely culprit is swimming in dirty water. Can we say, RIGBY LAKE? Nothing too bad, barely hurts, but still a problem. Sure enough it's a outter ear problem, and not in deep, which is weird to me, but there is more to one's ear than just the drum. So she gets ear drops for a week, 3 times a day. ALSO worth noting, every one of my kids made a doctor's visit a necessity within a month's time.  Aren't they so fair and thoughtful? -Brooklyn for a serious UTI. -Jocelyn for a broken wrist. -Landon for severe Migraine. -And Cate for her ear.

Brooklyn's visit to the Doc-in-a-Box

These kinds of post are always so fun to read about, ya know. While I don't have a photo of Brooklyn's adventure, I wanted to jot down at least a brief memory of it. Around midnight, Brooklyn came up stairs crying her stomach hurt.  She was literally withering in pain, but wasn't throwing up.  She couldn't settle down or sleep at all, and Mom-Gut said she needed a doctor.  Kyle is always a miracle during the night, and he got up and took her in. Except he got a call as they were x-raying her belly.  (Note:  I knew it wasn't constipation.  She'd gone to the bathroom before bed, a nice load.  So, that was good to know.  Because nothing sucks worse than taking a kid in to the doctor only to have them tell you, "Your kid's got so much poop in there, it's no small miracle she's not puking it out."  So gross. And no, I've never had a doctor tell me that, but I wanted to emphasize how backed up a kid can get.) So Kyle calls me to come ...

Head Ache

Landon's been having headaches. When he came home from day camp this past Thursday, he went into the fetal position and cried hard.  The poor little guy had been holding the tears back for a while I think, unwilling to let his leaders and friends know he was in pain. I felt prompted to get him to the doctor immediately.  I know what you might be thinking.  For a headache? Yes, for a headache. See we have a history in our family of severe migraines.  The kind that knock you unconcoious and make you vomit.  The kind that are debilitating.  Light and sound become offensive and intolerable. So, I took him in. He was pale and fragile looking as the nurse took his vitals.  When she came back, she brought the blood pressure cuff with her.  To our surprise, his blood pressure was high. This could mean two things: One, he is in severe pain, because high blood pressure is associated with pain. and Two, something else is going on. So AJ w...

Girls' Day

Landon had day camp, so I took the girls to do something fun while he was gone. Nothing like getting a little manicure from the beauty school!   AND THE FINISHED PRODUCT??

Year End? Brooklyn!

Guess there isn't as much celebrating going on when you're 4 and not in school. But Brooklyn did have a fabulous time at the school carnival, and I painted this work of art on her face. She didn't want to wash it off. Ever.  I let her wear it for about 2 days before I made her bathe. BEST. MORNING. HAIR. IN. THE. FAMILY. Award goes to: One minute after waking up. Two minutes after waking up, and realizing we're photographing her.  Sometime around the end of February or May Brooklyn got us in the habit of rocking her to sleep.  For now, we let it go, because she's our last one, and I don't think she'll let us rock her to sleep for much longer. She never did as a tiny baby, so I'll take these few minutes and enjoy it.  Plus, she falls asleep in about 7 minutes, which also eliminates her getting out of bed 4,758 for _____________. Drinks, potty, clipping my nails, asking a question she's been lamenting about for years.... like, ...
