So today I took Landon in to the doctor for Pink Eye, which turns out is usually a virus infection and not bacteria. Anyway, I asked if they could tell me if Brooklyn needed shots. And would it put them out if she did need them, could we do it since we were there. Sure. She did need them, and she got them, and tears flowed.
But THEN, Dr. Veber says this to me:
Did you realize that you haven't brought Brooklyn in for any well baby check ups since she was six months old?
Gasp. No. I had no idea.
She encouraged me to get that scheduled, implying that she didn't have time to do right them, which sucks, but whatever.
So I got home, and was thinking about it and how is it even possible that I haven't taken her in? Am I that negligent of her well baby checkups? Don't I care for her needs as much as I did with my first baby?
So I called the Ped Center and asked them to give me a the list of visits she has had. See for yourself.
Well, no wonder I haven't scheduled an appointment. The kid was in the doctors office enough SICK will all kinds of stuff, that we could have taken up permanent residence there. So no, I haven't purposely spent the money to see if she was okay, because obviously when she wasn't, we were there or in the hospital, or simply ENJOYING being healthy. Poor girl.
And with that, Heck NO! I am not taking her in for any check ups. She is spewing little sentences like "Mine Purse" and "NO, MINE". I feel confident that she has grown correctly, and that she is otherwise healthy. If there comes a single moment that she needs medical attention for whatever reason, I will see that she gets it.
So, no. I am not taking her in so they can:
• weigh her (which I know she weighs 24 pounds in a dry diaper)
•measure her head (which is round and bald)
•see how tall she is (height isn't one thing we think we have lots of, so short is fine and normal)
•make sure her heart is beating (it is)
•look briefly into her ears to see if they are okay (which lately, they are! and free of wax build too, thanks to my own Otoscope)
•look into her eyes and see if she follows the light (we are working on that. Following the LIGHT can take a life time of practice and requires a lot of endurance. But, yes she sees us fine. And watches TV for about 10 minutes at a time as previously indicated, and I am sure by 2nd grade she will need glasses.)
•poke her tummy and bowels and peek at her privates and listen to hear heart beat in her thigh... I change that bum many times a day. I know if there's a problem.
•to make sure she is reaching regular milestones (Ah, she climbs onto the tramp, can walk and jump, and sing. She sleeps well and long, etc. Fights with her siblings over toys. Yep, normal behavior.)
•and ask me if I have any concerns. (To which I would reply, "Yes, I am being financially ruined by frequenting this place. Can't I get a family discount already.)
